Warsaw
Poland's capital city was ravaged by siege in 1939, then totally destroyed in 1944. That today it is a vibrant, bustling city is a testament to the resilient spirit of its people during World War II. Warsaw's insignia, a fighting mermaid with sword in hand, is an apt symbol of their valor. Needless to say, the crown was removed during the 45 year communist regime.
Today, the Old Town, the churches and palaces, have all been rebuilt in their prewar splendor, also crone is back to the Warsaw's insignia.
